Generation 1
Rose Ann Healy was born on 7 August 1884 (Ref #1884/18292) in Kyeburn and enrolled at the Kyeburn School on 6 November 1893 (Register No 131). The teacher at the time was Miss M.R. Sherriff. She was also known as Rosanna. She was baptised on 21 September 1884 in Naseby by minister John Sheehan. Her godparents were Pat Fennessy and Sarah Keenan (Omakau Book 11 (#Bap 1), pg 40/1) - two local residents.
Rose married William David Johnson, a carpenter, on 29 December 1910.
The couple had two children.
1. Phyllis Margaret Mary Johnson born 6 July 1911 in Dunedin, died 15 June 2002
2. Laus Frederick Johnson born 23 January 1922 in Dunedin, died 25 Sept 1988 in Dunedin, ashes buried Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin
Phyllis married William John Blackie (1903-1998) at St Pauls Cathedral, Dunedin on 7 January 1931. A newspaper item on 10 January 1931 stated: "Mr W J Blackie, who was recently appointed Government Analyst at Suva, Fiji, has been on a brief visit to Dunedin for the purpose of getting married. He left with his wife by the second express yesterday for the north, and will catch the boat for Suva at Auckland." (OTAGO DAILY TIMES, ISSUE 21230, 10 JANUARY 1931, PAGE 12). On 16 January, a lengthy description of the wedding was published. See Otago Daily Times.
Laus married on 11 February 1950 in Oamaru, and they had two children: Raymond Laus Johnson (1951- ) and Shirley Ann Johnson (1953-2018). Laus in particular was very close to the Sharp family, and Desmond and Laus could have been mistaken for twins, the resemblance was so striking.
William was listed in the NZ World War I Army Reserve Rolls, 2nd Division, 1916-17: Johnson, William David, Carpenter, Butler St, Maori Hill, Dunedin.
William Johnson died on 31 December 1963 aged 77 years in Dunedin and was cremated. He was born in 1886, one of seven children of Mary and Charles Peter Johnson. (Ref #1886/14932)
Rose died in the Eventide Rest Home, Company Bay, Dunedin on 8 January 1980 aged 96 years. She was cremated and her ashes scattered at Andersons Bay.
